Religion In Our Lives

Although I am a strongly professed atheist, I do believe that there is some necessity for religion in the real world. The truth is, not everyone has the mental will to withstand the rushing idea that we only have one life to live over a very short amount of time. Thee are many people that truly believe in god as a reaction to their own fear of death and/or the idea of us being alone in this solitary universe.

I do not condone, however, the actions done in the name of religion. I would prefer if people would put away their zealotry and just put forth the effort required to tolerate other people. There is no need for America to be a Christian nation, and people should stop killing themselves in the name of their god (or gods). We need religion to play a much more private role while still helping those in need. Some people feel comforted by religion, and others are compelled by it to actually do good things.

So I'm going to make it clear. Although I don't necessarily support religion, it does have some positive effects, and it does have the potential to force otherwise completely selfish people to actually do something for other people. Of course it can make people do extremely negative things, but that's usually bred out of greed, and we could never actually remove that from humanity.
